More over Pieter:

Pieter is from South Africa where he graduated in 1994 from the Department of Architecture at the University of the Free State. After working as a professional architect for a couple of years, Pieter was awarded the Monbusho Scholarship by the Japanese Ministry of Education for continued professional education at university in Japan. From 1999 – 2005 Pieter successfully worked towards the completion of his doctoral research on anticipating change in the workplace environment based on the functional, movement and communication profiles of employees. In 2005 Pieter was awarded a Doctorate of Engineering (D. Eng.) from the Department of Environmental and Life Sciences at the Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan.

During his doctoral research the paths of Pieter and the CfPB crossed. Upon returning to South Africa in 2005, Pieter accepted a fulltime position as senior lecturer in Architectural Design and the Theory of Architecture at the Department of Architecture at the University of the Free. In addition, Pieter was active in advancing and professionalizing the FM industry in South Africa. As part of his work in this field Pieter (with the help of the CfPB) set up a team that worked on the Workplace Environment Improvement Program(WEIP) – focusing on the market of end users in South Africa. In September 2007 Pieter again decided to leave his native South Africa – this time to join the research team at the CfPB in Delft on a fulltime basis.

Since 2007 Pieter has been involved in the continued development of the research agenda of the CfPB. In addition, Pieter takes charge of various research projects on the lifecycle coasting of buildings, addressing the energy efficiency of office buildings by influencing user sophistication, the evaluation of workplace environments, the normalization of the functional properties of buildings and the role of the physical properties of buildings in user-satisfaction with the workplace environment.
